The incredible south coast beaches of Mykonos (Part 1)

Mykonos is famous for many things but the beaches located at the southern coastline are of incomparable beauty. Simple, plain yet magical and seductive. A combination hard to find elsewhere. 11 beaches, 11 beauties. This mini guide is seperated in two parts. Enjoy Part 1 now and stay tuned for Part 2!

 

1. Ornos

Ornos beach is one of the nearest beaches to the town of Mykonos. It stretches in front of the picturesque village of Ornos located deep in the homonymous bay making it sheltered.

It has clear, calm and shallow waters with sand making it ideal for families with children.

From the beach fishing boats can also take you to other nearby beaches.

 

2. Psarou

Psarou is probably the most popular beach on the island. The physical location of the beach, surrounded by low mountains, offers calm waters when winds blow north, weather not rare for Mykonos.

Psarou is well organized and has arguably the best luxury beach service in Mykonos. For this reason, celebrities choose this beach years now seeking for opulence and transforming it into a seaside resort.

Enjoy the golden sand and crystal clear waters.

 

3. Platis Gialos

Platis Gialos is one of the most popular beaches on the island. Large, well organised with fine golden sand and turquoise waters.

It has many fans who either reside in one of the many accommodations at the village or visit the beach almost daily.

The beach clubs serve even the most demanding and will definitely respond to your every desire almost all hours of the day and night.

 

4. Paraga

The history of this beach comes from the '60s, the era of hippies. Features of the beach is its picturesque view, the easy access and the beautiful views of the islands Naxos and Paros.

Paraga beach is fully organized with restaurants, beach bar and water sports.

 

5. Paradise

Discovered by the "Hippies", it operates as an organized beach since 1969 and since then its reputation went beyond the borders of Greece gaining the title of one of the most famous beaches worldwide.

It is famous for its parties and daily happenings that are throughout the day. It is the most famous beach on the island along with Super Paradise beach and is filled with colorful and vibrant life.

Thousands of visitors from around the world visit Paradise every year and enjoy the hectic dancing to the music of the beach bars on the sand.
